Demo

I usually post my NAV TechDays demo stuff for you to use and abuse, and this year won’t be an exception. There are three changes, to previous years, specially the last year. First, you won’t need to wait until New Year’s Eve for me to post my stuff. Second, I’ll blog each of the demos individually, because of the third reason.

Yes, I keep forgetting about “stuff”. First I forget about blogging in general, then I forget how to blog properly. I’ll get it sorted out. Eventually. Solemnly swear. Kind of. Anyway, my demos yesterday were full of screenshots. Useful stuff. You can copy a screenshot from there, paste it to OneNote 2016, then get the text from picture.

In my last post I announced a challenge: the first pull request on my TicTacToe for AL GitHub repository that contains a properly written event handler with “AI” that either beats the human player or ends in a draw gets a special reward. Honestly, I didn’t expect to see any submissions there, because NAV community is not too GitHub savvy.

Extensions are a hot topic these days. There was a ton of sessions at both Directions events, likely also at NAVUG, and most of the talks you could hear while mingling around was extensions this, extensions that. Chances are – you are going to be writing your extensions in a foreseeable future.

Over the course of creating my videos, I have created a number of demos, and massive amount of code (well, massive in relation to the duration of videos). So, with Microsoft’s agreement, I have published all of the demonstrated C# and PowerShell code to my GitHub repository.

A couple of weeks ago, a new page was created on PartnerSource – the “Demo Microsoft Dynamics NAV” page. You can access it at http://aka.ms/demonav The page contains (at the time) two scripts and two How Do I videos that help you establish a demo NAV 2015 environment on Azure, in Office 365.

One more great Directions EMEA event is over, and it was a great experience again. I am a bit sorry, though, that my main focus was delivering presentations, so I enjoyed myself less mingling around, meeting new folks and consuming content. But it was still a great event.

Many people have asked me about availability of a downloadable Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 demo. Unless you are an existing Microsoft Dynamics NAV customer on a support plan, or a Microsoft Dynamics partner, you can’t download a demo version from a public Microsoft web site.
